One of many Louisiana statutes they challenged made clear the state's assertion of its right to deny recognition to the legal act of one other state: "A purported marriage between persons of the identical sex violates a strong public policy of the state of Louisiana". He notably refuses inclusion underneath the brand new Queer Cinema banner, preferring as a substitute to be associated with the "Queercore" motion, which, as Brinkema notes, marked an effort to "introduce erotic anarchy into the sexually complacent (and not just a little homophobic) punk movement."13 Coined by B. Ruby Rich in 1992, New Queer Cinema refers to a constellation of impartial festival movies made by queer directors within the early nineteen nineties that allegorize the AIDS epidemic, thematize criminality, and foreground marginal subcultures throughout the queer neighborhood.14 In an announcement reprinted in Waugh’s e-book, LaBruce claims: "I don’t feel I have quite a bit in widespread with a bunch of wealthy kids who have degrees in semiotic principle, who make dry, academic movies with overdetermined AIDS metaphors and Advocate males in them."15 Moreover, LaBruce’s politics are much less earnest that those of recent Queer directors.16 Anecdotally, the "amputee sex" scene in Hustler White, which I later discuss, is notorious in queer and Canadian movie circles because it is alleged to be a "bad" illustration of persons with disabilities.
