How do I make the "Asset Value" column work?

My inventory items have the cost field filled out as well as the quantity on hand.  I would assume the asset value column would just be those items multiplied?  Or am I thinking about it wrong?

Hi Eric - The cost is the cost that you want to use as the default on your purchase orders. The "value" column is the aggregate value of all the inventory that you have received.
