will meet Windrush passengers in a new documentary to mark the 75th anniversary of Empire Windrush's arrival in the UK.<br>The Prince of Wales will join celebrities including newsreader Sir Trevor McDonald,  ,   and comedian  to meet members of the Windrush generation and hear their inspirational life stories for the ITV documentary.<br>Each will meet people from the Windrush generation and hear their stories to provide a powerful and eye-opening insight into the experiences of a community of more than 500,000 who arrived in Britain between 1948 and 1971 initially to work in the NHS and on transport networks. <br>Contributors will also be invited to the Pride Of Britain Awards in October where they will accept a special award on behalf of others in the Windrush generation.<br>One of the contributors is Alford Gardner, a 97-year-old, who moved to the UK from Jamaica when he was  22 in 1948.<br>      (image:  )    One of the contributors is Alford Gardner (pictured with Prince William), a 97-year-old, who moved to the UK from Jamaica when he was 22 in 1948<br>The HMT Empire Windrush was the first of many ships to arrive between the late 1940s and 1970s, bringing people from the Caribbean who answered Britain's call to help fill post-war labour shortages.<br>Filmed across the UK and produced by Multistory Media [part of ITV Studios], the 1x60 film, the Windrush Generation, will bring together stories that celebrate their contributions to British life and culture, as well as shedding light on the reality of the struggle many faced to gain citizenship despite having lived and paid taxes in the UK for many years as a result of what became known as the Windrush scandal.<br>The film is being made in association with Pride of Britain and the Daily Mirror.  It is commissioned for ITV by Nicola Lloyd, Factual Commissioning Editor and Sue Murphy, Head of Factual Entertainment.<br>      (image:  )    Michael Gove, Windrush passenger Alford Gardner, The Duke of Cambridge and Baroness Floella Benjamin at the unveiling of the National Windrush Monument at Waterloo Station last year<br> William has previously met with Alfred in 2022 for Windrush Day.<br>Last year William also revealed he 'learnt so much' on his and Kate Middleton's tour of the Caribbean in 2022 to mark 's .<br>The Prince of Wales said at the time that he's not only discovered more about the 'different issues that matter most to the people of the region, but also how the past weighs heavily on the present'.<br>William was speaking as he and the  attended the unveiling of a national monument at London's Waterloo Station to celebrate the dreams and courage of the Windrush generation who came to help Britain rebuild after the Second World War. <br>The father-of-three's eight-day trip to the Caribbean with his wife Kate was branded 'tone deaf' by critics who said there were moments smacking of 'colonialism'.<br>      (image:  )    The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, accompanied by Baroness Floella Benjamin (left) attending the unveiling of the National Windrush Monument at Waterloo Station<br>      (image:  )    The Duke of Cambridge (pictured in Kingston), 40, said he not only discovered more about the 'different issues that matter most to the people of the region, but also how the past weighs heavily on the present'<br>In his speech to those who had gathered for the unveiling, which included Windrush passengers and high-profile members of the black community, William said: 'We know without question, that the Windrush Generation have made our culture richer, our services stronger, and our fellow countrymen safer.<br>'My family have been proud to celebrate this for decades - whether that be through support from my father on Windrush Day, or more recently during my Grandmother's Platinum Jubilee, as people from all communities and backgrounds came together to acknowledge all that has changed over the past seventy years and look to the future.<br>'This is something that resonated with Catherine and me after our visit to the Caribbean earlier this year. <br>'Our trip was an opportunity to reflect, and we learnt so much.  Not just about the different issues that matter most to the people of the region, but also how the past weighs heavily on the present.'<br>William also spoke of the Windrush scandal which began to surface in 2017 after it emerged that hundreds of Commonwealth citizens, many of whom were from the Windrush generation, had been wrongly detained, deported and denied legal rights. <br>He said: 'Sadly, that is also the case for members of the Windrush generation who were victims of racism when they arrived here, and discrimination remains an all too familiar experience for black men and women in Britain in 2022.<br> <br>
