What are some simple steps I can take to protect my privacy online?

I am sorry to say, that this is not possible. You can try your hardest to remove your data from the internet, but it will never be completely removed. Once you put something online, it is there forever. Even if you delete accounts, your digital footprint is still out there, somewhere, on a website you forgot or websites that do not fully delete your data after you close your account.

You can use a VPN to mask your IP address or use an adblocker that blocks tracking such as Google’s tracker. This allows Google to track your movements online so they can better advertise to you. This is called targeted advertising.
